Poetry Competition

With the environment being celebrated as the theme of this year's National Poetry Day, we are excited to launch a poetry competition for our partner primary schools, run in conjunction with local wildlife charity the Cameron Bespolka Trust. Children have been invited to write their own poem on the subject of birds: perhaps to describe their favourite bird, or their earliest memories of birds, or the joys of experiencing birdsong at dawn. 

The first prize is a trip to New Forest nature retreat Cameron’s Cottage for the winner's class. Runner-up prizes include a class trip to Brownsea Island, a wildlife haven in Poole Harbour. All competition entrants and their parents and carers will be invited to a celebratory afternoon tea in College Hall on Wednesday 2 November.

Wildlife Talk

Renowned ornithologist Roger Morgan-Grenville will judge the competition, and present the prizes at the afternoon tea. On the same day, Roger will also be giving our annual Cameron Bespolka Memorial Wildlife Talk on 'Beavers and Buzzards; nature adventures on a very long walk’. Roger has a deep interest in the restoration of British biodiversity and a passion for birds; he successfully retraced Shackleton's journey across South Georgia for the first time, and is a founder of the charity Curlew Action.
